World Languages Consultant / AERO

Dr. Christine Brown previously served as a Regional Education Officer (REO) for the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Overseas Schools, covering the Western European Region. During her tenure, she also represented the Department on the International Child Protection Task Force and the European Council of International Schools.

Before joining the Department of State in July 2013, Dr. Brown was Deputy Director at the Carol Morgan School in the Dominican Republic. Prior to that, she spent 28 years with Glastonbury Public Schools in Connecticut, where she served as Director of K–12 Foreign Languages and ELL, and later as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.

A prominent leader in world languages (WL), Dr. Brown is Past President of ACTFL, chaired the Writing Task Force for the Standards for Language Learning, and led the AERO WL Standards Projects. She conducted all WL AERO summer workshops and guided the development of model K–12 AERO WL Curriculum Units. She has also consulted on standards projects for Arabic, Korean, and Esperanto.
